Autism Employment Support for Building Skills, Confidence & Career Readiness
Finding the right work opportunity can be an important part of becoming an independent adult. But getting ready for employment involves much more than finding an open position. Young adults may need support understanding workplace expectations, identifying their strengths, preparing applications, communicating professionally, and becoming comfortable in new work environments.
Unlocking Gems provides personalized autism employment support for autistic youth and young adults with lower support needs who are preparing for adulthood. Through practical autism vocational training, employment preparation, and individualized guidance, we help participants explore their interests and develop skills that can support their employment goals.
Preparing For Work
Building a Stronger
Foundation for Employment
For many young adults, the first step toward employment is understanding what kind of work may be a good fit. Interests, strengths, communication styles, responsibilities, and preferred work environments can all influence the types of opportunities someone may want to explore.
Our autism employment preparation focuses on helping participants understand what work involves and what employers may expect from them. We can work through practical situations such as arriving on time, following instructions, communicating with coworkers, completing assigned tasks, asking questions, and responding appropriately when something does not go as planned.
Rather than assuming every participant should follow the same career path, we encourage young adults to explore options that connect with their interests and abilities. This gives them an opportunity to think about what they enjoy, what they are good at, and what type of work environment may suit them.

Hands-On Guidance
Autism Job Coaching
with a Personal Focus
Every young adult enters the employment process with a different combination of strengths and challenges. Some may need help understanding workplace expectations, while others may benefit from practicing communication or becoming more comfortable with new environments.
Our autism job coaching focuses on the specific areas where a participant may benefit from additional guidance. Coaching can help young adults think through workplace situations, practice appropriate responses, and become more comfortable with responsibilities associated with employment.
We encourage participants to ask questions, learn from experiences, and recognize when they need additional support. The goal is to help them become more prepared and confident as they explore employment rather than creating dependence on a coach.
Finding The Right Fit
Employment Should
Reflect Their Strengths
A successful employment experience is not simply about whether someone can perform a task. The work environment, responsibilities, schedule, communication expectations, and interests of the individual can all matter.
Our autism vocational services help participants think about these factors as they explore employment possibilities. We encourage young adults to consider what they enjoy, what responsibilities match their strengths, and what environments may allow them to participate comfortably and productively.
This can help make career exploration more intentional. Instead of choosing an opportunity simply because it is available, participants can begin thinking about what type of work may be meaningful and realistic for them.
Connected Support
Vocational Readiness Is Part
of the Bigger Picture
Employment preparation often connects with other areas of adult development. A young adult may need coaching while exploring career goals, independent living skills while learning workplace routines, or case management while identifying community resources.
